Seminole County needed a way to better service its residents and visitors with an improved online presence. The challenge was to find a platform that had the features, functionality, and ease-of-use to enable their team to manage their website. The in-house team at Seminole County needed the ability to manage all website content and facilitate the needs of their core constituents: residents (both current and prospective), visitors, and businesses. As a government website, Seminole County required a secure, flexible, and scalable platform to manage their online presence.
A top-tier technological infrastructure was critical to Seminole County and Solodev built on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud proved ideal to manage Seminole County’s online presence. Solodev utilized AWS CloudFormation to manage the various servers, databases, and user-facing website Seminole County required. By leveraging the AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Solodev was able to quickly auto-scale capacity up and down as Seminole County’s computing requirements changed.
AWS security capabilities and services increase privacy and control network access with network firewalls built into Amazon providing Seminole County with world-class security. Solodev employed AWS OpsWorks, a configuration management service that allows Solodev to configure and operate applications, define the application’s architecture and the specification of each component including package installation, software configuration and resources such as storage. AWS OpsWorks also includes automation to scale Seminole County applications based on time or load and dynamic configuration to orchestrate changes as the Seminole County technological environment scales.
The new Seminole County website's improved navigation makes it easier for users to quickly find the most requested content while also being responsive and optimized for screens of all size.It includes several custom functionality modules that make it easy for Seminole County staff to keep site content fresh with news, images, videos and announcements.
The new website also has an emergency alert banner that can be activated within seconds to prominently display critical information. The Seminole County website also includes news and video integration, dynamic breadcrumbs to aid navigation, multi-lingual capabilities, a staff directory for county officials, enhanced listings for parks and facilities with location-based functionality, and an events calendar. The website is securely hosted within Amazon Web Services, which offers full disaster recovery, and easy scalability to 100,000 concurrent users by leveraging the Amazon Content Delivery Network (CDN).
