In youth sports, some organizations attempt to reduce the pressure and increase the amount of fun for the participants in the early age groups by not keeping score or tracking wins and losses. Then, as the kids mature, the competition increases and the score begin to “count.”
If you are not using some sort of tracking software to determine the amount of traffic your website is generating, it’s like playing a game and not keeping score. That’s fine if your site is “just for fun,” but if you need to know whether you are winning or losing, you need to know what kind of traffic you are receiving.
One of the best products on the market is Google Analytics – and the best part is it’s free. Google Analytics will allow you to not only see how many people came to your site, but how they got there, how long they stayed and what they did while they were there. It gives you some real actionable intelligence with which to work.
Google recently announced some updates to Analytics that make it even better. The most exciting is real-time traffic, which allows you to see at any given time how many people are on your site. Other improvements include flow visualization to see graphically where visitors go within the site and multi-channel funnels, which allows you to see which channels customers interacted with during the 30 days prior to making a purchase or whatever chosen metric for conversion you have for your site.
If your business relies on your website and you have not been using tracking software, it’s time to graduate from the youth sports ranks and begin keeping score. |
